Area General Manager (IHG) based at Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG)


Gareth Long is an Area General Manager with IHG, based at the Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach in Sydney, overseeing a number of Hotels in the central-Sydney area.

Appointed to this role in mid-2018, Gareth has stepped back into field Operations after spending two years in IHG’s Corporate Office, where he oversaw Operations Support for the Australasia and Japan region.

Gareth has been with IHG for 17 years and worked in multiple roles across the organisation. Originally from New Zealand, he started as a Corporate Management Trainee at the InterContinental
Wellington. From here, Gareth worked his way through a number of Rooms Division roles across multiple brands in New Zealand, Western Australia and New South Wales before heading to India to take on his first General Manager role, opening a Holiday Inn in Northern India. After returning to Australia, Gareth was the General Manager of the Holiday Inn Sydney Airport for two years before moving into IHG’s Corporate Office and ultimately into his current role.

Gareth is passionate about being a Hotelier and whole-heartedly believes people are the greatest resource any hotel has to differentiate themselves. He loves the challenges the diverse hospitality industry presents and enjoys bringing a level of innovation to any situation. Gareth is passionate about information sharing and has taken the opportunity to speak to multiple audiences about a wide range of topics from industry trends to emotional intelligence; most recently speaking at the Global Les Clefs d’Or Summit in Seoul, South Korea. Being a Kiwi, Gareth is a passionate All Blacks fan and loves to explore new places through his obsession with Travel.
