Biography

Ian Lomas, principal and design leader in our Sydney studio, is super keen on the topic of sustainability. He’d be well placed on panel – he’s terrific talent in a discussion.

 Ian is co-leading (with WB’s regional interior design leader for AUNZ, Tracey Wiles) the redevelopment of the InterContinental Sydney. Key to the redevelopment is the transformation of the Cortile space in the heart of the hotel into a new luxury bar that will provide an anchor to the multi-storied space.

Ian also led the 2019 competition winning design for a new hotel on Bligh Street. It was the first project to take advantage of the City of Sydney’s Central Sydney Planning Strategy, fulfilling all the criteria for quality development of the central business district into the future. Ian said at the time:

“In Sydney, we feel that nature is only ever held back, and if it were left unchecked it would quickly reclaim its domain – oozing like jam or glue into every crevice. Green walls, unexpected roof gardens, trees and generous landscaping at street level are part of the building’s integrated sustainability strategy. Integrated wellness and health features can deliver Australia’s first WELL rated hotel.”
